    Hi all

Yesterday my husbands van broke down. He was just about to pull away and there was a bang and then no drive to the wheels. Engine running fine, he can select all gears etc just no drive. Any advice about what is wrong and if it can be done by him, or recommendations for a garage in the stansted airport region would be great.
    Many thanks Kate

My guess its the right hand side Driveshaft. It rips the Splines off the Drive out of the gearbox. Its said to be due to insufficient grease on the splines of the driveshaft.
If so,it will require a new drive-shaft,gearbox drive and Allen bolt, and the Hub nut at the wheel end and 2x Lower Ball Joint bolts. It can be done without it being on a Hoist, but a bit of a pain on your back at the side of the road.Dont forget to grease the Splines !
    Alan.

Your right that is exactly what has happened. Can the splined output shaft from the diff be changed without stripping the gearbox? If you undo the screw in the centre is there any likelyhood of the threaded retainer falling down inside the differential unit??
    Cheers for your help

No nothing will be damaged, fall out of place. The shaft is a seperate part. You will need a Long- reach 6mm Allen key to remove it.Its not tight to remove. On refitting, you will have to push the output shaft against a spring to get the bolt started on the threads.Good Luck!
    Alan.
