    HELP !!!!

My 1997 cabby is over revving on start up and wont stop !!!!

Running around the 1500 RPM mark constantly !!!

Not good as its Auto .

Really dissapointed as i've spent the last 2 weeks going over him and giving him a good detail for a long weekend away in North Wales !!!!. Even gave him a new battery today too .

He makes the effort to go OFF choke but then fires up big time !!!!

    Thanks in advance....

    Hi,

I think the new battery is the clue, the ECU may have lost the 'settings' for the throttle position sensor. try Vampire's trick here?:

From what I've read, they are larger than normal and may have 'moteur' written on them, so possibly those in the centre at the front?
If not, disconnecting the battery should do the same thing!

OMG !!!!!! Doin my head in now

    Tried it all now........

Even tried this from my service man..... Disconnect battery, touch leads together to discharge totally and then leave disconnected for a couple of hours.

    NO JOY

Looking like a trip to my local Audi specialist PETER ELLAMS in Hudds or a visit to dealers and bight the bullet.

All this nice weather and just you watch..... sonn as he's fixed, it'll chuck it down!!!

Thanks for the help tho so far.

Sorry this is not working for you, but are you carrying out the following in full? :

Just pull the fuse(s) for the ECU/ignition timing, wait a few mins then replace them. Next turn the ignition on for 10 seconds, but DO NOT start the engine or move the throttle, then switch off restart the engine (still without moving the throttle). the idle rest to normal and everything was back to normal.

just checking, as you only mention disconnecting the battery?

I guess it could be a vacuum leak or the Idle stabiliser valve sticking?

    Update.....

Ended up taking car to Bavarian Motor Warehouse in Huddsville

    Got Optimus back last Tuesday

    £679 lighter in my pocket

Throttle body was problem with revving all the time. Heavily soiled.

Whilst on with job they found a coulant leak in bottom of V on engine.

    Replaced coolant pipes and seals.

4 of the 6 plugs were seized in.....= LABOUR

Asked them to replace thermostat...... BIG MISTAKE !!!! Timing belt has to come off. = MORE LABOUR.

On the whole..... i dont think it was too bad really....... considering.

    Car runnin sweet now........ almost.

Got another problem..... steamy windows and smell in cabin. Read loads of things saying its heater matrix...... but one thread on S2 forum says a small bleed screw on steel coolant pipe is a possibility ?????/

    THOUGHTS GUYS ?????

Good you got the revving fixed

I think the symptoms you now describe sound like a hater matrix leak, there may be bleed I'm not aware of on a v6 Cab, but the bleed I know about is in the engine bay so should not be the issue.
Suggest you remove the coolant hoses from the heater matrix and join them together, obviously you will have no heater but the steamy windows should subside if the matrix is bypassed.
