    Hi there,

I recently had my Passat serviced and on the invoice they had changed the fuel filter. Can someone tell me where the filter is in the car. I can see what looks like a big round can on the far left hand back corner of the car with pipes going in and out of it.

My issue is that if this is the fuel filter the can looks dirty and oily and looks like its not been replaced. Also if it is the fuel filter, is the whole can replaced or is there an element inside.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards - Stu

Fuel filter is a paper element that requires 5 torx screws to be removed to get the cover off to access the element which is a straight swap for a new one with a new sealing ring. 10 minute job start to finish.

The unit sits to the left of the engine as you look at it from the front.

Stu, the fuel filter is normally a metal cylinder on the O/S inner wing behind the headlamp. It's a paper filter element that fits inside the cylinder so the whole thing isn't replaced.

I suppose that's better than not replacing it and just wiping the outside to make it look like they've done the job.

Then again, it's not that brilliant that if they did change the element they didn't bother to wipe the can clean.

    You can't win....
