Hi - new member so sorry if it's already been asked!

My A6 2.5tDI quattro - showed a lower battery voltage than normal yesterday when starting and there was no power steering. When trying to drive it home I parked up and turned the engine off. the car started back up fine but still the same issues ..... then whilst completing the journey (2miles) everything suddenly came back to life - PAS and no battery light!

Now today, earlier it was fine but the second time I went to use the car during the day it showed the same issues as above, only this time the car does not turn on after ignition is turned off.

Not too sure if it's related but I went to get the wheels aligned yesterday and when I initially had the car back the ABS and ESP lights were coming on. I took it straight back and then re-did the alignment which seemed to make the lights turn off!

Looking for pointers on what it could be

    Thanks

Check the tension of the Aux drive belt. Something is wrong.

Hi - thanks for the starting point.

Well got the car started with some jump leads and whilst driving (without PAS) the battery voltage kept dropping.

Eventually when I pulled up the battery was completely flat.

I will try and put a voltmeter across the terminals to check if the alternator is ok? Will this be a good starting point?

I did call out the AA a while ago who said the battery needs replacing - could it be this? If this was the case - why is the PAS not functioning when the car was fine? It has been intermittent as it worked fine this morning!!

    Help!

Sounds like the drive belt has failed completely, possibly due to a seized air con compressor.

Guys - sorry for the delay, finished night shift and was playing catchup!

As it was dark I couldn't see much but will check shortly - I presume it's easily visible from the engine bay?

I tried the air con and that worked fine so I'm hoping it's simple stuff!

    Thanks
