    Hi guys

New to this forum but not the forum enviroment have been on plenty for Landrovers but now have a problem with an A6.

Brother in law got an A6 2.8 quattro on an S plate from the scrapyard last August repaired the drivers wing that it had been written off for and put it back on the road. He's away due to his work so now I'm left to sort out any problems.

I have a good knowledge of Landrovers but not of Audi's so I'll need your help. The car runs good now that it has been used on the road for a while but there are a few things needing looked at.

The rear of the car sit's down low and you can't put any weight in the back or the tyres rub on the arches, thinking the springs are broken, is this a job that can been done in a weekend with out too much hassle.

The service/insp keeps lighting up when you start the car, is there a way of resetting this without taking it to a dealer.

Is there anything special to change/look for when doing a service other then the normal engine oil and filters.

It's done 130,000 miles if this makes any difference.

    Thank you in advance.

I've not done springs on an A6 (I have on other Audis), although the A6 has a complicated suspension that flexes on a series of bushes, changing springs shouldn't take someone with a bit of knowledge any more than a few hours.

I assume you have no owner's manual for the car, how to reset the service light is in that. If you don't have the manual, let me know and I'll dig out the instructions for you. If the car is on Longlife/variable servicing then the intervals must be reset using a diagnostic tool such as VAG-COM/VCDS, or by the dealer.

Normal oil and filters at servicing. Also check the plenum chamber (use the search box at the top right of the page) for blockages at services. There is a drain under the battery and another below the brake servo. If the first clogs then you'll end up with wet footwells and the convenience electronics such as central locking will go haywire. If the one below the servo blocks then you may end up with a rock hard brake pedal.

Servicing every 10k max is best. Timing belt + water pump should be changed every 60k or 4 years as a general rule I always use.

    Hi Paul

Because the car came from a scrapyard there's no user manual or any books that you would normaly find in the glove box.

How can I tell if the car is on a Longlife or variable service intervals is there a mark somewhere that will tell me?

I did read in this months car mechanics mag about how to reset the service light on a TDI and tried it but it didn't work. Does mean it is on a longlife service?

Is there a Hayes manual availble and is it worth getting one? Everywhere I've looked only has books for the A3 and A4.
