Does this always mean a blown head gasket?

Not a huge amount, but I've not noticed it before - its usually black. Done a lot of short journeys in the last few months (soon to be rectified with 10 55 miles trips per week).

130 PD TDi Engine 73,000 miles.

New cam belt and water pump 10 months ago.

Water clean as a whistle (clear pink), dip stick clean (well the usual jet black oil of course but no cream, no froth).

Using some oil now, but not excessively.

Occassionally blows blue smoke after over-run - pretty sure its smoke and not steam as it persists in the air; so may not be related.

Just wondered - I know it will either get worse or go away with higher mileage runs, but just pondering what I might be looking forward to.

Anyone know what an indy charges for a head gasket? (or how much the VAG parts are and how many hours it takes)

    Cheers!

This time of year you probably get a little condensation in the cam cover everytime the engine cools. This will end up as a slight mayo type oil & water mix. especially if you do a few short journeys. It's quite common on diesels.

Martin is 100% here my friend; I had a bit of a similar wobble myself a month or so back thinking the same as you, as I had a bit of Mayo, but the guys on the forum reassured me and 1 long journey cleared it completely. It is just the cold weather/short trips. Breathe easy again!

Hi, I have a 53 plate 2.0s & it does it regularly after very short runs, however a good run & its clean again, certainly not using coolant or is contaminating the oil when I check it at the dip stick ?

Thanks guys. I can breath out now ....

Just started a new job with long runs, so I guess it will clear off PDQ.
