    own a 98 1.8t tiptronic recently having problems with gearbox.auto side seems ok although the dash display whilst still showing the gears has like a black shading around the letters and numbers also tiptronic side of box not working and the display doe not change when you move the shifter across from auto mode.any ideas .ta

    Pull the carpet up on the drivers side front just enough to see or feel the control unit for the gearbox and see if there are signs of water which could have ingressed into the unit.

    I have heard magnets can cause a problem, an example above.
    Audi A8 - 2015 - 3.0TDI
