If the alignment is perfect and the tyres are too, then there is not much you can do. Golf 2 and 3 are prone to pulling to the left.

after looking around i have noticed the strut mount isnt sitting flush inside the housing in the wing, i am guessing this would put the caster setting out aswell, really need to find a better garage to do my repair work, hoping to get the strut off and fitted properly myself

There must be a gap between the top plate and the housing turret, this closes up when the suspension is unloaded. I think it is impossible for the top mount rubber to not sit correctly in its location, it is self aligning. The caster is not adjustable, if it is out, something is bent, usually the wishbone.

you would think so, definately not sitting flush in the plate, there is a big gap between the rubber mount and the plate, could get my finger between it.

Completely normal and nothing to worry about, as you turn the steering to lock the plate will rotate and sit at an angle with an uneven gap.

think its definately time for a new mechanic, been and had a look and the ride height is lower on the offside, guessing this would contribute to my gti pulling to the left, i thought both had been replaced,, appreciate the information you guys have posted to me
