Today, I decided to take my dad to Scarborough for a lads day out. We got there and I spent a bit of time driving round the car parks to find a space I was happy with. I finally settled on a space in the sea front car park, about 8 spaces away from the nearest car, nothing on either side of me. So I then went to the ticket machine, and on the way back could not believe what I saw.

What I can only describe as a complete bell end had backed up a lorry to within 2 feet of my drivers door, parking horizontally across 4 spaces! The back of the truck was open and was full, floor to ceiling, wall to wall with pigeons!! It looked like said pigeons were about to be let out, with my car right in their immediate flight path!!

Now, I know reading this you won't believe it, but I swear it is 100% true!

I mean, what was all that about??!!! I know it was April Fools Day, but this was just ridiculous! Didn't know whether to laugh, cry or resort to physical violence! (And if Beadle was still alive, I might have thought it was one of his TV pranks!) But in the end I did the sensible thing and resorted to moving the car as far away from the offending vehicle as possible.

I mean, what is it with these cretins? Do they drive round purposely looking for a well looked after car, whose owner has meticulously picked a parking space, and park their heap of livestock filled, rust riddled junk as near as they can to it, just as a wind up?

That's enough ranting for now, but is it just me or does this sort of thing happen to anyone else??!!!

It's how it is now, you can't expect a Beverley Hillbilly to think, it probably took all he could muster to start the engine, probably did you a favour in that had he been quicker your car would've looked like a sunday league footy pitch by the time your ticket had printed.

    I do sympathise with you.
Though not overly fastidious I always look after my car by keeping it shampooed, polished etc.
And whenever I have to use a car park I will spend some time choosing a parking space which I consider safe for my car to be parked without being damaged/scratched by less careful drivers. This usually means I will choose a space which has no other vehicles parked either side of my chosen space.
This also means that these spaces are furthest away from the shops etc which we intend to shop at. (My wife thinks that because I take so long to chose a parking space she accuses me of dithering when parking the car and that I deliberately park it long distances from the shops just to annoy her.)
Now I might be paranoid but some form of 'sod's law' always comes into play because whenever I return back to my car there is invariably some old rusty 'banger' parked alongside my car, even though there are plenty of other spaces they could have used. And they usually park so close that I have difficulty getting into my vehicle.

Sympathies - always park as far from the store as possible. Sometimes inbetween two other nice motors seems like a plan, but you can never be sure who owns them!
