Hi all, new member to the forum, have read lots of good advice here before so hope someone can help:

I own a 1998 Golf 2.8 VR6. AAA engine code with 60,000 miles on the clock ( looks genuine from MOTs receipts etc.). The number 6 spark plug has oiled up twice in the last 6 months. General consensus is that oil is getting in either through a cylinder ring or a valve guide. Options so far range from a new engine to a top or bottom end rebuild.

My local VW garage has been up front and said that they would not take a job like this on as it's not economical for them. I don't really want to get rid of the car and accept that a repair bill may be up in the 000's, but I am having trouble finding somewhere to take the car. Does the diagnosis sound right and does anyone know of a specialist in the S. London /Kent/Surrey area who would take this on.

    Thanks, Duncan

As you prob already know that mk3 golf vr6 engines have a problem with there 6th cylinder, which means that it wares much faster than the other ones, it has been fixed on the mk4 v6 4motion engines, i think you best bet would be to change the engine, try and get a storm engine from a corrado, it is 2.9 and 190 bhp 20 more than in the golf. my mate has done that in his mk3,
