Con From VWAudi Forum??? -ie. email address spammed so email appeared to be fron VAF

I just got the following email. I know this isn't direct from any moderators or the such, but I was just wondering if anybody else had recieved anything similar?

Recieved email:

I am introducing my self as i am Michael Kamara, the only
Son of late Mr. and Mrs Jonathan Kamara, I wish to
request for your assistance in a financial
transaction. I got your contact from a member of this
your site, And I wish to invest in Manufacturing and
real estate management in your country.
I have Twelve million two houndred thousand united
states dollars.USD($12.200,000) to invest in your
country, and I will require your assistance in
receiving the funds in your personal/company account
for investment, I will gladly give you some resonable
percentage from the total sum for your assistance
while I pray that you do not betray me at last.

Yes - It was in a thread a while back. A spammer posted the above but it was reported quick, the post deleted, and the member banned. I expect he/she got to some people's email addresses and sent the same thing.

As far as I am aware, there is no way he could get email addresses from the site. This website does not "CON" it's members, this website does not knowingly send any emails to members, with or without attachments, APART from welcome emails, newsletters, post notifications. All of which can be disabled in your usercp.

Should you receive any email from the site, with an attachment, delete it!

I get emails like this all the time, even to email addresses I no longer use.

Oh no don't get me wrong I'm not saying this site is trying to con people! I meant for example a third party user using this site in a way that they shouldn't if you know what I mean.

I am afraid that's the way email addresses get used these days, and I am not sure how you can stop this. I even get the same sort of email to an address I no longer use, and it is also one I never gave out to anyone.

I think it's a case of people maybe "buying" email address list's, like mailing lists.

Anyway, as I said, if you do not wish to receive email's from this site, make the changes in your usercp.

Sadly it's extremely easy for spammers to 'spoof' the address of origin, and there is no way to stop it.

HA! that was on radio 1

while i was at work it was ranting on about this scam about a money trans and they actualy rung up the number that was given to them on the email and i think she was german? but anyways she did not sound to sure of herself, rather confused, i bet some old fool fell for it!
