Wow! Off topic! Please try and keep fairly close to the thread's subject - it makes it so much easier to use the forums.
    /Rant off

I for one would love the option of a 'dumb' key that could be used if you did something silly, but all too easy to do, like locking your keys in the boot. I'm not 100% sure of the circumstances, but I know the boot can lock automatically after its shut. Once I'd left my keys inside, though luckily I was at home and had the spare set to hand.
I used to keep a 'dumb' spare key in a little magnetic box stuck to the underside of my car. It was made for this purpose and never fell off. Anyone else got experience of these? Good/bad points?

They've played about a bit with the scrappage allowance; at times keeping up with the Jones' to keep market share, but dropping back to the 'standard' £2k when they no longer worried about that, as they began to get good orders in for Golf last summer.

I ordered mine last June - I was in right place at right time, and got the £4K off a GT TDI, plus a squiggle more. THink that offer was only on for a fortnight or so. The day after I placed my order, it dropped back to £2K.

If any of you guys need to replace the battery in the VW key then there is a How to replace the battery in a VW key on YouTube.

My friend at work has a bought a new Golf 1.9TDi in 2005 and he's still using the original battery so they do last a long time.

They last a long time, providing you don't use the remote to raise and lower the windows or in my case to open/close the sunroof as both of these actions require continued pressing of the appropriate buttons.

Did anyone answer the original question of this thread. I couldn't be bothered reading through all the off topic stuff to check.

Anyway, if anyone else wants a discreet key to keep as a spare, go to your dealer and ask them to supply you a key blade. That's the blade part of the flip key. It probably wont even cost as much as 15 quid either.
