    Ok guys/gals.

With all my other cars I carried a spare key on my home keyring as a backup.

I thought I would have a blank spare key cut just so I can flirt the cap of the lock and open the door. I could hide my other spare key inside somewhere. The locksmith said he cut cut a blank key but he would have to order a key shell which wouldn't be programmed £15. I'm not bothered about the programme providing I could open the door.

I don't really mind paying £15 but its the fact thats its a full size key stuck in your pocket that I don't want. I may as well carry the spare key with me which will be the same size.

Have any of you guys had spare keys cut, if so which type and cost? I know that VW can only cut 2 more keys, 4 in total for the car. The Mk5 you could have 8 spare keys. I haven't priced the cost of an original key. Has anyone bought one?

Talking of keys. As anyone bought a nice VW keyring? I've search the web and eBay and there are plenty of standard VW keyrings and GTi but no GTD. I bought a standard leather backed VW keyring of eBay yesterday VW VOLKSWAGEN LEATHER FOB KEYRING (NEW) its only £3.69 but it will do for now. It arrived today thats quick for them.

Keyrings don't generally take up much room. Is it the same style as the one I bought in my link?

I am getting the vw keyring from the dealer, the one with the small carabina belt clip on it, I think it was about £8, expensive but I usually have my keys on my belt as they can be soooo uncomfortable in the pocket when you sit down.

Yes I saw the all metal ones but I have the habit of opening the car door with the keys in my hand. The dealer gave me 2 keyrings all metal obvious with their number and the VW assistance number on it. When I open the door I can hear the metal contacting the door thats why I went for the leather fob.

I went into Halfords a few days after I had it to see what keyrings they had. None only mickey mouse ones. Not literally mickey mouse but novelty ones, they had 1 Astra keyring that all. While i was there I bought a full set of rubber floor mats with winter still here. They catch the snow of your feet rather than letting it soak into the carpets.

Halfords Black Rubber Car Mats (Front Pair)

Halfords Rubber Car Mats (Rear Pair)

    Just cut them to shape.

I see they do Halfords 5W30 VW/Audi Fully Synthetic 2 Litre Oil which isn't a bad price considering the Castrol Edge 5W30 Oil 1 Litre which they gave me is £15.99 per litre.

Just going off topic a bit. How did you manage to get 19% discount Percy?

I've seen another user saying 10%. I asked at the dealer and they said it couldn't be done else the dealer was making no profit at all (that was on 10%), they were just looking for sales figures.

VW were offering £3950 scrappage against the S model, and £2000 against the SE.

However Carfile were offering a deal with their normal discount (of around 9%) and scrappage allowances of £3200 for the S and £2000 for the SE.

My SE order came in at something like £18,800 OTR after adding a few extras. At Carfile this would have resulted in a discount of £3880 and the local VW dealer reluctantly decided to get within £50 of that figure.

I think my final numbers, without refering to the invoice, were £250 deposit and £14700 balance on delivery, so call it £15k.

£3.8k discount on £19k near enough 19% off

When were VW offering these prices?

    I've seen the Carfile examples
