hi guys. a good friend of mines drives a 2001 model passat and the other day his brakes completely stopped working. He had previously been changing the front discs and pads and took the car for a spin. Everything was ok untill the next day when the brakes stopped working, only the handbrake works and there is no light present on the dash. This has confused us both.

thanx for replying zolaf. Found the servo to be faulty. Very small hole in it. If this is the fault, would this disrupt the flow of brake fluid to the calipers.

If the servo is not air tight (vacuum tight) it won't work. The brake pedal will need much much more push than normal, so it will feel rock hard and feel like the brakes are not working.
