Has anyone removed the left and right hand steering wheel inserts (the ones with the 4 buttons on them) on their cars? The bottom comes off relatively easily but not sure if side ones hook under the horn cap or should be prised from top or bottom. Neighbourhood fed up now with me constantly sounding the horn everytime I try to remove them!

Dunno, but you could always disconnect the battery first.

out of interest, why do you want to remove them??

on a completely separate note, i have no MFSW but would love to have the inserts a nice silver colour!

Bingo- Have sprayed up the bottom one and it looks fine - so now wondered if i could disassemble the side ones and do those-pretty a**l I know but my 09 car was one of the last with the boring looking wheel (I thought i was getting the new cc type they have now fitted) It really does make the wheel look great!

You can buy a stainless 'bottom one', silly money though (I think it's a Golf accessory).

The wheel is boring, and could be made to look so much better with the side ones stainless as well. Haven't checked ebay lately....

Any chance of a picture when the job's done (if you ever get the sides off!)?

Will faff around when i get chance in a couple of weeks as I am working away, and post pics and results. Would still be grateful for any technicians out there who could help with instructions on removing safely the side bits

You will need to take off the air bag as the two side ones are screwed to the wheel under the middle (air bag) area.

Two holes, one each side on the back where you can't see. Feel round the back of the airbag part of the wheel or use a mirror. You can unclip with a screwdriver. If you move the wheel about you will find the best position to reach the hole. You do one then turn the wheel round to do the other. Make sure battery has been off for 5-10 minutes first.
