After it being freezing over night and snowing i got in the car to go to work and the warning lamp below the engine temp gauge flashed and bleeped 3 times. I got the manual out and this light indicates low coolant level but when i got to work i checked and the coolant is fine. It did it again when i went home at lunch time but then it stopped doing it later?? Do you reckon i should take it to the ******** to have it checked out cause im thinking it could be a faulty sensor? forgot to say that the car didnt over heat it stayed at 90

Ive had to top my coolant up already on 1.4tsi 122bhp, its gone low again so i took it in, the mechanic said it was ok and because i have only done 4500 it may be a bit of evaporation and it should settle at 10000, i thought this was a load of baloney personally.

you sure it's the coolant warning?

I noticed mine gave a warning of icing or outside air temp below a certain level.

After only 2100mls the coolant top up warning light of my new 2ltr 110ps TDI warned me to top up the coolant. I topped up to the level and marked it off to keep and eye on it. Initially the level dropped 5mm and has remained constant over the last 3 weeks which included a 900mls round trip at 73mph whenever possible on the motorway. I have taken the matter up with the dealer and have been told that provided the drop in coolant is not due to a leak, topping up is a normal occurrence. No matter,
I will be interested to see how this thread develops.

In addition, I was surprised to be told to add water to the coolant to bring it back up to lever rather than a mixture of water and anti-freeze. As coolant has not leaked the original amount of anti-freeze is still in the cooling system and the addition of water would bring it back to the correct anti-freeze/water ratio. I believe the coolant is replaced at the correct servicing interval.

The original amount of anti freeze is still in the cooling system?!?!? But you have just diluted it with more water, how can the correct ratio be in it?

They will try and make you believe anything.
