    Hi

I've got a Golf GTI 16V 1996 model. It currently has 205/50/15 R tyres on them (x4). I need to replace the front 2 tyres because they are well worn out but the rear ones have probably a few months left in them.

When I search for replacement tyres on Kwikfit, the recommended tyre for this car is 195/50/15 R.

    My questions are:

    1) Will the existing alloys fit the 195/50/15 replacement tyres, i assume yes because its the "15" that matters?

    2) Would the difference be significant when I drive the car if I replace the front tyres to a narrow width (195 instead of 205), i.e. I replace front two tyres first instead of replacing all fours.

    Any suggestions?

Mine was fitted with 205/50/15 as standard, and thet's what is has on the tyre pressure guide on the fuel cap.

Also, don't touch KwikFit with a bargepole.

I'd recommend blackcircles.com as a good website, and they use a network of local fitters, the one nearest me was fantastic.

I'd agree that Kumho are good. I've also been impressed with Hankook. I liked the Yokohamas I had on my old car, but they weren't long lasting.

Michelin are good, but don't meet your criteria of 'cheap'

I've curently got Cooper tyres on the front of the Audi, which were £50 each (205/55/16) and have been good so far. I got them from Blackboots.co.uk, who are a dealer for blackcircles.

What sort of mileage have you got out of Kumho and Hankook tyres?
