I have a mk4 gt tdi golf, 3 door. I have noticed when i travel at higher speeds (60mph +) and especially if it is windy i can hear air blowing/whistling in through the drivers door seal or at least i think that is where it is coming from! It never leaks water even when in a heavy downpour.

Does anyone know whether this is likely to be a door seal that needs replacing or could the door be mis-aligned? Please help, it is really beginning to annoy me!

The door may have dropped or be incorrectly aligned, does the door top upper corner hit the bodywork when closing?

Hi crasher, thanks for the reply, no the door doesn't catch on the bodywork and it doesn't make any strange clonking noises when shutting as some dropped doors do. It may have dropped a tiny amount as the top of the door is not perfectly in line with the top of the bodywork, but only by a couple of mm. Any ideas of how to fix?

It would need to be looked at by someone who knows the doors and how they seal. They can be tweaked and moved around but one false move and you need a new door.

I noticed yesterday when opening the boot that the drivers door is not quite algined correctly, it sits away from the main bodywork along the top edge when compared to the passenger door. It looks like it is tilted outwards from bottom to top slightly!

I had a look in haynes manual and it says there are some adjustments that can be made from the bolts in the hinges. I was looking and was thinking if i loosen off the bolt from the top hinge a little and maybe the top bolt from the lower hinge i could pull the top of the door in and then re-tighten?

Do you think this will work or i will i make it worse? Can i really ruin the whole door if i get it wrong? I really don't want to fork out for expensive labour to have to re-aligned if possible!

    Thanks
