My 1998 audi a4 1.8 turbo has a throttle problem.

A friend of mine diagnosed the car and the fault codes 17967 and 01165 came up.
I replaced the throttle body and sensor located on the inlet manifold but i still have the same problem.

It starts, but wont rev past 1500 rpm. It revs up to 1500 rpm then drops to about 700rpm and then back to about 1000 rpm idle.

    Any ideas?

I have tried disconnecting the battery, touching the 2 terminals to reset the codes but it still has the same problem.

I should mention the radiator isnt fitted at the moment. Would that make a difference?
Obviously i dont leave the car running....i am just trying to get it revving properly(not warming it up)

    Hi Mate,
Dont think their ignoring you, prob no one has got any info for you..
I have just had a look on autodata and 17967 say's Throttle control unit-basic setting malfunction.: accelerator or starter motor operated during basic setting.

01165-idle speed control(ISC)actuator/throttle motor: basic setting not carried out..

ok, i changed the throttle body and let the throttle position thing set itself up without presing the accelerator.

It will rev to 1500rpm then either die or down to about 500rpm then back up to 1500rpm but you can guarantee within a few seconds it will cut out

when i got that fault it was a split in the crankcase breather pipe.

same symptoms as yourself but on an a4 b5 1.6se ARM type engine
