VOSA have a document on their website, the relevant bit for a new car ...

"Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be
    transmitted through them."

Let your insurer know it's been tinted.

Better than a refused claim, or invalidated cover leading to a conviction for no insurance.

    Hi Sunny Bard,
I'm all for making sure the insurance is fully covered, I was just surprised that privacy glass made such a differnce. Direct Line quoted an addition £40 + increase in my excess by £100. Seemed a bit steep IMO. Anybody else had similar quotes?

I've been with direct line (or privilege who seem to be direct line in disguise) for about 10 years, not found anyone cheaper by more than a couple of quid for me.

My A4 won't be arriving until next year (after the VAT hike ) but I've had an initial scout around and lv.com are looking favourite for a change, slightly higher excess, but any driver same price as proposer only, so jealous mates might get a drive .

I took Audi up on the insurance!

Although they weren't on Confused.com or Compare the Market.com, they were still second in quotation value.

If they don't know what the car is then there's an issue...

(I do have way over ten years NCB though)
