My car seems to suffer from black smoke during acceleration. It has been back to the dealers twice, can tfind anyhting wrong. From my limited knowledge of engine management systems surely we should not be getting too much black smoke duaring acceleration. Has anyone got a 2.0 tdi 140 that doesnt smoke on acceleration?

How do you drive your car? If you drive it easy then accelerate there will be a build up of suit being released. Think this is worse on DPF models.

I read, somewhere, that the 170 does indeed smoke more than the 140 due to mapping and greater power.

Does your car get good, long, occasional runs? Does the DPF run properly? What fuel do you use and have you tried other sources?

I thought the idea of a DPF was to stop black smoke.

As far as I'm aware, my '56 Sport 170 (with DPF) never smokes. As Quatrelle says, the DFP is specifically to remove diesel particulates.

I use fuel from shell garages most of the time.

I also found that the black smoke from my 2.0 Tdi made far less smoke when I used Shell diesel. I then consistently used Shell and the smoke problem disappeared, until I was running low in the tank and had to use Morrisons diesel. The black smoke re-appeared under moderately hard acceleration.
