    Hello, My car is an Avant 2.5 TDI (2005), it was always quite good at starting, even when very cold, A couple of weeks ago it seemed to take a while to start, now it seems to be getting worse. When it is cold I have to wind it over for quite a while untill it fires up, when it is going it is all ok. When it is warm it starts better but not as is was. Ant ideas?
    Cheers Pete.

    is it slow cranking over? if so could be your battery as the last cold spell we have just had has nailed quiet a few batterys, if it turns quiet well could be worn glow plugs, get a battery check most garages test for free.

    The battery is fine, the engine turns over as good as ever.
    When the engine is warm it will restart well but only if you restart it quite quickly, if it is left for say 10 minuites the glow plug light will go out after a short time (same as always) but then you have to hold the starter on for longer again. Cheers Pete.

    hi, same prob with my 2.0 Tdi saloon (55). what ive noticed is after the glow plug light goes off i have to wait for the air bag light to go off then it sems to start.. i dont know if im mistaken though.

    i used to have a similar prob on my 1.8T petrol (b7) and it was the starter motor so could possibly be that

    @S_Line

    Did you change the starter motor yourself? If so how did you find it. I m trying to change mine in my A4 B7 Estate and really struggling with access to some of the bolts!

    Cheers

    change glow plugs

    starter needs to turn over 280 rpm or fuel might not flow, might seem ok if its getting slower over a period of time ..........................
