Can I turn off those "adaptive cornering" lights

They do make a slight difference when I turn right as that's where my eye is drawn, given that I sit on the right - but over on the left, I can't tell the difference.

It's just not necessary - now if it was proper adaptive lights, like on Mercs....

Why do dealers have to be so bloody awkward??

I`m due to collect my GTD tomorrow afternoon, so yesterday I emailed the sales guy and asked for a few settings to be changed during PDI. I gave them all the details about what to change too.

One was the foglight/turning thing - says the `master tech` thinks he can do it, but has to ask VW for permission first !!!???

another was to activate staging - says master tech doesnt know anything about this so wont do it

And lastly, asked for the telephone to be activated so that I can fit my bluetooth kit soon as I get the car - says it will drain the battery if its activated before the kit is fitted, but they will do it after - I`ll need to book it in and there will be a charge for it - cheeky git ! I know damn well its a 2 minute job with VAG COM.

Good job I`m friendly with my local VW indie, I just didnt want to hassle him cos I know hes really busy at the moment.

One of my neighbours used to have an Octy VRS and the Skoda dealers was more than happy with him modding it, including a remap too !

Is it possible to turn them off - only because I am officially sick of people telling me that I have a bulb out - including the local PCSO who chewed me out about having a bulb out and having my foglights on....

You want to turn off a helpful technology just because some simpletons don't know what's going on? What next, disable your auto headlights because your passenger doesn't understand how your lights can come on witohout you flicking a button?

Just ignore everyone else (or tell them they're wrong if you wish) and leave them on .

Yes, it may be helpful when actually turning into a parking bay, driveway or other unlit space but I can't see how it is helpful to have one foglight come on when leaving a roundabout, or approaching a turn when indicating.

But how is it unhelpful? Surely having something that is helpful sometimes but not helpful other times (but not unhelpful), is better than switching it off entirely and having it never be helpful?

Better to have something that is actually effective instead of a distraction to other road users. As the adaptive cornering lights would be effective in situations I mentioned previously, then surely the speed at which they operate shoud be comparable to the speed at which you may require them. Someone mentioned that they do not operate above 25 mph but that is not really practical or safe in busy traffic. Maybe a lower speed would be preferable but even then I do not need a fog light on when sitting at a junction waiting to turn right, when that junction is fully lit.

As for "having something that is helpful sometimes but not helpful other times", do you drive with headlights and tailights on all the time, or wipers going constantly?

But it is effective...? And a distraction to other road users? Give me a break. I've never been once been distracted by cornering or adpative lights, Golf or not. Just don't look at them .

My wipers are not on constantly, no. But if you cannot see the difference between wipers operating constantly and cornering lights operating only when you turn tight corners in low light conditions at slow speed, then, well.

You missed my point with regard to headlights and wipers but never mind.

I have no problem with the adaptive lights operating at low speed and in low light conditions but I see no need for them to come on when indicating off a roundabout or when leaving a motorway, especially where the road is well lit. What is the benefit in these situations?

Dipped beam headlights are helpful in the dark but they are not necessarily helpful in the sunshine, so I can choose to turn them off. There are however, occasions during the day, for example when it's raining, that I may wish to have my headlights on so I turn them on. Maybe VW should've added a switch to to enable the adaptive lights to be turned on or off as and when required.

Staging doesn't really do much, it just looks cool. When you turn the ignition on all the needles on the dash sweep all the way round, then back again.

As for the adaptive cornering foglight, well personally I've been driving for 22 years now and never needed them in the past, maybe VW should have put better bulbs in the lights, but I'll be upgrading mine asap anyway. Just personal preference.
