    Hi all,
Wonder if you could help me. I was looking at my spare yesterday and there are a number of slots empty in the tool kit that holds the jack, which for some reason I'm convinced weren't empty when I looked before.
What should I expect to see in the tool kit under the floor mat in the boot? The car's 57 plate 2.0TDi.

    Many thanks,

Just the usual...jack, wheelbrace, locking wheelnut tool and maybe a tool for removing the wheel centre or plastic wheelnut caps.

There will be a space there for a detachable towball.

As daveo138 says, you should have the little bent wire thingy (bottom l.h. corner), for pulling off the plastic wheel nut covers, the 'key' for the locking wheel nut, the towing eye, the jack and the wheelbrace.

Here's mine - with my bits added: the long bolt is my extension to the wheelbrace, there's the 'obligatory' 10mm spanner tucked in beside the jack, the black box is my parking sensor, and of course the spare bulbs (legal requirement). My cigarette lighter is next to the bulbs.

Should also be a reversible screwdriver under the wheelbrace.

I think the unpopulated slots are filled with things like a can of sealant and an inflation device on cars with no spare wheel.

Didn't get a screwdriver with mine .... and there's no space under the jack for one.

Should be under the wheelbrace as I said, where there is a space. It is not easy to spot in the gloom against the dark polystyrene.

Walking from my pc to my garage, and wheelbrace becomes jack I think the gloom's in my brain. I'd completely forgotten it was there.

Hmm, thanks all. I was convinced there was a compresser and a tyre pressure guage in mine originally.

It's the senility kicking in again I guess.

Well I can't imagine what the screwdriver's there for.

Reminds me of the Citroen DS and ID models years ago, where it wasn't worth carrying any tools - they were so complicated that if they broke down you just called the AA or RAC.

The only tools that are going to be any use in a Passat are a 10mm spanner and a mobile phone.
