Passat B5 - what to look for when buying/common problems???

Hi

Looking to get a Passat Estate (B5), looking from 01 to 04 plate, and just wondering what to look out for?

I'm looking to get a car which is under 100K mileage and is a TDI. I know there's the issues with the seal on the the cabin filter compartment and water leaking in, but I just want to know if there's anything else I should be checking for, such as:

> potential engine issue on the PD TDI

> any common corrosion issues

> any common electrical faults

Above and beyond the norm nothing jumps out at me, but its worth getting the car on a ramp (for the sake of a tenner..) to check over properly - they are reliable if looked after. Go through the service book, check everything works incl the air con, even if its cold out, makes sure it gets cold!

Dont buy the first one you drive/view!

if you browse through this forum site you'll come across almost every common problem reported.

Feel the floors and ensure that they are dry, although this can be sorted, also this can spring out at any time. If any of the floors are wet you may get a discount to sort the problem out from the onset.
