  1. RHD vs. LHD
    #1
    Bratty Guest
Seems apparent that the UK Audi models suffer from certain design or technical problems!

    1. Offset Pedal.

    2. Light Switch hard to see (Fog Lights).

    3. 3G Navi (No Post code, turn warning probs, etc.)

    4. Tow Hook not compatible with normal use.

    5. Availability of Options (currently available in Europe) not specified.

    6. etc.

The fact is why! YOU ARE PAYING PREMIUM MONEY FOR YOUR CARS.

A lot of the issues "CAN NOT" be addressed, but the software and hard wiring ones can? and as for the options that are ACTUALLY available,
why are you not allowed to choose them!

Disagree on you saying we are paying premium in the UK. Used to be the case in a major way but the pound has taken care of that.
Cars are a LOT more expensive in continental Europe, esp. Germany. Last I checked a similar car to mine in Germany was 20% more expensive...

The only issue I have is the light switch but then again not a big deal. Lights are on auto all the times and Xenon are plenty brights. Plus don't feel the urge to turn my rear fog light as soon as it gets dark unlike a lot of drivers around

Offset pedals is a real issue but not for me as I have S-Tronic.

Which essential extras are we missing on?

What options do we not get?

The only option I've seen in the sliding floor on the Avant. It's in the manual but I've not come across a country that offers it.
MY2010 A4 Avant 2.0 TFSI quattro S-line Exec - Aruba Blue, 19" alloys, Full Leather, B & O, 3G Tech Pack, Adaptive Lights, Dynamic Susp, Folding Mirrors, Power tailgate, Storage/Light Packs, Parking Plus, Heated Seats, Rear Blinds, Load Rails, Privacy Glass, Rear Airbags, TPMS, Load Liner

    Gone : 09 A4 Avant, B6 S4, TT, Golf GTi...and the rest are embarassing!

Options (or choices) that are not available in the UK that spring to mind are

    1. Standheizung, the ability to pre-heat (cool in summer) your car using a timer or remote control system. A luxury item "of course" and not cheap but so is adaptive cruise etc.

    2. Ability to specify pick-up of new car from factory (a tick-in the box option!) not just an offer from the dealership). Quite expensive but might take away some of the pain involved in waiting for your car to arrive.

    3. Navigation system- Low. Using the monochrome display and arrows/voice commands.

    4. The ability to order 5 segment 19" wheels at the normal price (600 euros) and not the grossly inflated Audi UK price.

    5. You can specify the control stalks to be reversed on the control column. (Why I do not know!!?!!).

    6. Ability to order s-line interior only (exterior package is in addition).

And as far as prices go in Europe you will find that the equivelant UK cars are priced at about "1.4 Euros to the pound rate" when you compare the brouchure prices for equivelant options etc. whereas the actual rate is "1.14". Hence Audi Watford Export sales are very busy with pikey europeans trying to make a killing.

TBH I am perfectly happy with.... a) the spec I decided on, b) the price paid,

Audi's figures for OTR and extra's IMO is far more competetive that the other so called exec brands.

You have to compare apples with apples, not with what the same car costs elsewhere. Its got to be in relation to what the market dictates.

    On other points.................

    1. Offset Pedal....."pitch" - I have Multitronic and don't notice this and has not been an issue to me.

    2. Light Switch hard to see (Fog Lights)....."pitch" - I have in 4 months of ownership not used the fog lights once, so not an issue.

    3. 3G Navi (No Post code, turn warning probs, etc.)....."pitch" - Turn warning now rectified with update, post codes I have never used this on any systems I have used as it does not take you to the door. Much prefer full address which can be entered by voice very very easily.

    4. Tow Hook not compatible with normal use....."pitch" - Would I be seen towing a caravan....NO.

    5. Availability of Options (currently available in Europe) not specified...."pitch" - can't think of anything else I need, apart froma bit more poke, but the wifes ED30 takes care of that.

    6. etc....."pitch" - pardon

    1. Standheizung, the ability to pre-heat (cool in summer) your car using a timer or remote control system. A luxury item "of course" and not cheap but so is adaptive cruise etc....."pitch" - I don't think I would have opted.

    2. Ability to specify pick-up of new car from factory (a tick-in the box option!) not just an offer from the dealership). Quite expensive but might take away some of the pain involved in waiting for your car to arrive....."pitch" - Again very pricey and nah happy to have waited rather than driving to square head land.

    3. Navigation system- Low. Using the monochrome display and arrows/voice commands....."pitch" - not really the ticket and I certainly would have not opt'd.

    4. The ability to order 5 segment 19" wheels at the normal price (600 euros) and not the grossly inflated Audi UK price....."pitch" - granted a nice option to have, but i think they look pants.

    5. You can specify the control stalks to be reversed on the control column. (Why I do not know!!?!!)....."pitch" - Why would you???

    6. Ability to order s-line interior only (exterior package is in addition)......"pitch" - Why would Audi want to do this? Where would it fit into marketing.

You could say why not make all 2.0TDI's 190bhp. Its marketing and maximizing return which is surely what any business is about.

Some people I guess are easily pleased others not.
For me I feel very lucky with my lot and being able and fortunate to drive two very nice cars.

Looking at other brands I am not suggesting Audi is perfect, but they certainly are up there and perhaps better than the rest.

HIS - XC90 D5 R Design (sorry, had to be done)
    TOY - 2001 Westfield 2.1 SEW,172bhp SOLD TO MY BROTHER, I needed a PANERAI.
HERS - 'R' New 7spd DSG and 310 rampant ones. 4.2 off the mark will do nicely

Standheizung - This i would love, iv even looked into getting a intelstart alarm that does the same thing (i hate the cold morning starts)

I think Bratty is right the range should be a standard regardless of country but whatever we are or arnt missing im not bothered thats just the way things are sometimes

As for cost i dont feel bitter, I can afford the price i paid and im happy with my car so there's really no point worrying about it

Whats with the offset pedals i didnt even realise they are different - shows how much i know lol

Maybe this is for the Japanese- all Japanese vehicles I have driven have the indicators and wipers the other way round.

Very annoying when I indicate to come off a roundabout and the wipers start up

Must say that what I am impressed with in my vehicle is the build quality, it looks and feels good, it goes well and best of all it feels absolutely stable at speed. I reckon that the UK market has done the model proud in keeping the basic standard of the vehicle very high and actually makes the buying of a second car less of a minefield (as the car is specced to a very high standard from the offset). Just would of liked the heating thing option! and them 19" segment alloys

No car is perfect, but would I reccomend an A4 to a friend??? Oh Yes!!

Audis and other makes are far more expensive on the continent now due to severe devaluation of the pound. I would've loved to have paid what you lot did...
