Anyone wondered just how much money their shiny new Mk6 has lost?
I've had mine for 10 months now and thought I'd enquire as to its worth against a new Scirocco. Quoted £14k by the ******* who sold it to me for over £22k- Gobsmacked!!!!

Ouch! The cheapest 2.0l DSG on Autotrader is £16k although one dealer was advertising a used SE with 11k on the clock for £20k! Trading a new car in after a year is probably the worse thing you can do (apart from buying a new car in the first place...).

nothing wrong with buying a new car. if people didnt, then there wouldnt be used cars to buy, plus youve helped out the economy etc, etc ,etc, and its your money to spend as you wish, but for me, 8k in 10 months would fund some serious fun.

Always have a laff when reading the car mags. They report that their test cars are a bit thirsty or the oil change service was expensive, at most a few hundred quid a year. Then they don't mention at all the £10,000 depreciation in 12 months.....on a 5 dr hatch.

Think the most cost effective way to run a new(ish) car is a nearly new mainstream model from a car supermarket. A Mondeo/Vectra/Astra 6 months old still 2+ years warrenty left, lots of kit and as well made and kitted out as you could wish for, all for a third to half off list.

That assumes one wants a Mondeo/Vectra/Astra. There's nothing wrong with them, but I certainly wouldn't.

That does seem a bit low.

I recently got a quote for mine from one of those 'we buy any car' online outfits, and they quoted £15.3k.
I would have thought yours should be worth even more, being a diesel.

You're selling at the worst point of the depreciation curve to a dealer that knows business is slow this time of year; not too many buyers walk forecourts on cold wet days. The dealer will also try it on, they know that since you bought your car there have been 3 prices rises and the vat rise, so even a£18k price sticker on the screen will look good compared to £23k+ for the same car new. The dealerships will be so quiet once the scrappage finishes this month that dealers will he crying out fir sales in2 months time

I do wonder what the dealers will do when the scrappage scheme comes to an end...lets hope they clear up the back log of orders!

I bet they wont be so quick with the price rises!

I paid £15k for mine, £4k off and it's RRP has gone up £1k since Xmas so even if it's worth £14k now at 9 weeks old I'm not too bothered. Pity help people specing £30k GTIs, especially once spy pics of the mk7 become more widely publicised.

Lets not forget as soon as we drive them out of the garage they immediately lose 17.5% (VAT) even before the depreciation...

Still a bitter pill to swallow tho' hopefully after 3 yrs or so the curve will have flattened somewhat making buying the next one a bit easier..
