My heated rear screen seems to work in icy conditions like this morning. What happens is it melts the ice but leaves the rear screen covered in water droplets that don't move.

I see loads of other saloons without wipers that have clear screens although the car is covered in ice and water so they haven't been in a garage overnight.

I travel 10 miles (sadly) very slowly without the opportunity to blow the water off (I use Rainx as well), it takes about 40 minutes and the rear screen is still covered in water droplets offering quite poor visibility.

The dealer has tested it and says the element is working fine and the power going through it is normal.

Does anyone else get this? Is it normal or just me?

I have to admit my A6's rear screen isn't the best I've ever had on a car. It takes me 40 minutes to get to work and even after the heater has automatically switched off it still hasn't removed the water completlely, and that's on motorways.

Like you it does melt the ice and demists (eventually), but leaves water behind. It seems a rather feeble, or underpowered, element in there.

As your journey is slow there is not enough wind speed to clear the rear screen Mine is the same and the droplets do not move until around 40/45 mph. Regards Peter

That's comforting in that mine probably isn't faulty but I see some really old cars with clear rear screens - not an impressive performance from Audi. Thanks pxr5.

Mine clears the rear screen quite quickly but as you say, the speed isnt high enough for the water droplets to go away.

Same here, and consequently I also find the window get's dirty quickly - I guess the aerodynamics of the car are not ideal to clearing the rear window.
