    Hi all,

Just noticed when i started up T 1.6 Golf a tapping coming from the engine. It taps in time with the cam belt so to speak. Only notice it when i start the engine so i assume it goes when the car is in motion alot.

Its had the cam belt changed in November 93000(Water pump went so had to change cam belt again)

Is this a bad thing. Ive had the bonnet up and couldnt see anything hanging off etc

Most likely a leaking hydraulic tappet, might be an idea to flush the engine, and fill new oil and renew the filter, short of that you will need to find out which one it is and replace it

You must remove the camshaft,Golden rule, if the noise goes away after 10 mins then there is nothing to worry about,if you can live with it

I notice it when i start the car in the morning and when i get to work (40 mins later) i dont so i would say it does go away. So it wont do any major damage. Anything i can do to make it better??? Check oil change filter etc ???

Clean out the engine of accumulated sludge, deposits and other disgusting stuff, it will run better and hopefully longer.Mind you what you might pay for that and the oil and filter change could be the equivalent of replacing the one lifter

I assume u mean lifter=tappat. Is a engine flush cost quite alot of money. I just started my car the tapping was there but was gone about 10 sec after I started the car and when I stopped it wasn't tapping anymore
