Is my alarm arming? When window left open and after LEDs start flashing, if you stick your arm through window the hazards start flashing but no audible alarm. Is this correct or does it sound as if i have a problem with alarm?

Shut everything and arm the alarm.

Pop the boot using the middle button on the remote (boot release) but don't lift the lid.

Wait for the car to rearm itself (hazards flash again after 30 or so seconds) then left the boot.

You should hear the siren wail.

Tried as asked but system didnot re arm (2001 A4 Avant) dont know if that makes a differance. Tried opening boot with key as it says in book and only silent alarm again.
Just found an old thread about siren battery do you think this is an option?

Ah, it's an Avant! The above only works on a saloon as far as I'm aware.

If you know anyone local with VAG-COM you could ask them to give it a quick scan to check for faults and then get them to have a look in "Cent Conv - 46" to see if the siren has been disabled.
