More Help needed: Following cool heater problem cleared away much pine needle debris from inside engine bay and heater now ok. However much water under bonnet not draining away. Answer to how many drainage points are there under the bonnet and how to access them would be appreciated. Major areas of concern - water holding either side under bonnet struts and also underneath central heater box. Dont send me to main dealer please.

ok it is very hard to get to, the drainage point is in the middle of the bulkhead under the ac unit as far as im aware. A simple solution is to take off the black plastic trim that covers the bulkhead compartment that you say is full of water, scoop out and soak up all the water that is there, boil a kettle and pour down the middle section. The hot water ususally disolves whats blocking the drain, its worth a go, i can tell you the main dealer will want silly and i mean silly money to unblock the drain as they replace it but to get to it loads of stuff has to come out

Moving on, just where are the drainage points, under the battery? Is this the way to access them or is there some other route. It was always simple on my old Cavalier!!

I have a 1996 A8. While changing the oil yesterday I remembered a comment from another Audi forum concerning the two drainage ports located at the apex of each front wheel well. While the car was on its drive-up ramps I'd used to elevate the car for its oil/filter change I directed the shop light and there it was: a small black rubber prong that felt rigid to the touch. I thought it was a solid piece of rubber. I removed it and was amazed when I rolled it between thumb and finger. The entire length of tube was impacted with a fine dried mud that had solidified. I cleaned an reinstalled. Both sides were plugged so they could not have possibly allowed the scuttle to drain. You might check there. You can inspect by reaching past the top of the front wheels and feeling into the upper recess of the wheel well nearest the firewall. The plug is removable for just such cleaning. Perhaps this will help.
