Interesting? I have a little bit of rust forming here - may pop in and get them to check - I may get it done for free! Will ask at MOT time in May. Or is it April?

    Hi Stuart

I have known of the car from new and it has had no paintwork and the peeling is randomly all over it . Also the internal switches peeling seems to be quite a common complaint on the B6 amongst this forums members. This is my third audi and I would have to say in my experience the finishing quality is not there on the B6 compared to my old B5

I have a small spot of corrossion on my bonnet where a stone has completely chipped away the paint. This would hardly be covered under warrenty would it?

To properly rectify the paint defects the panels will need to be re- basecoated and lacquered , not good i know and wont be cheap either for a professional job as your audi deserves.

personally i wouldnt deal with chips away or other smart repair companies the repairs they do never stand up to the long term weather , usually a quick fix to sell the car etc

Hi guys, I have a 2002 A4 TDI amulet red and the same is happening, serious peeling happening on the bonnet, and a couple of small spots on the roof, apparently where stones have hit but not really chipped the paint. Seems to me the lacquer is not sticking properly. Have read a few other forums and it looks like it's a particular feature of this paint colour. Not sure I can face another humiliating trip to the dealer as the car is 8 years old....

Definately seems to be an issue now they've switched to water-based paints. Once the lacquer seal is damaged, water and heat will do the necessary damage and it becomes unsightly.

Only professional long-term repair is to completely repaint the car, however this isn't really an option on older cars.

My mint 1995 80 Avant TDi was metallic green. Even with stone-chips the paint lacquer never lifted. Compare that to my B5 Audi A4 Quattro Avant which had lacquer damage before I bought it. Audi repaired it under warranty. Now just have a little damage on the bumper - which I can live with. Sanding the edges back with wet and dry paper and relacquering is a cost-effective fix on cars over 6 years old.

Guys this problem isn't confined to older cars either as mine is a 2008 A3 and the lacquer is starting to peal on the front bumper. Took it to the main dealer and they told me it wouldn't be covered under warranty as it was down to stone chips - so how come the same problem doesn't appear on the bonnet where there are far more !?

I'm no expert but I know the bumpers and body are not painted in the same factory but I would expect them to be finished to the same standard and not blister in such a short time.

Any advice onn how to get this sorted would be appreciated as I need to hand the car back in the next 6 months and do not want to be hit with costs for this :-/
