Just been to see a 97 A4. Absolutely perfect in every way, except when I rev'd it after it had been ticking over for a few mins. A ploom of white smoke, then black smoke came out of the exhaust followed be a stack of soot. The guy (who seemed very honest) said it had never done that before, and I was inclined to believe him as the look on his face was a picture! He said it had just been in a garage for a service. Any ideas what this could be? I understand what white smoke on it's own could be, or black smoke on it's own, or black smoke with soot, but all three had me perplexed. I walked away, but wonder if it could be something relatively easy to fix? In addition to the smoke, when revving hard, it stuttered, almost felt like a lack of air?
