    Hi All
Can someone help with what gearboxes or codes fit this engine as I am trying to locate one.

Is the bolt pattern soley for this engine or is it universal

Apparently they used the same engone in the A4 - Skoda Superb - Passat

    Thanks Dave

Can't give you a definitive answer, only that which applies to the AKE engine in mine. I've seen 9 manual gearbox codes and 4 automatics for my 02 Allroad Quattro:

    EHT
    EKM
    FTH
    FTL
    ETH
    FGZ
    FTN
    FTP
    FTQ
    ETM
    EYJ
    FAU
    FEF

A year, engine code and car model will get you further...

    2002 2.5TDI 180 Audi allroad (gone)
    2004 1.9TDI 130 VW Passat (gone)
    2009 2.0TDI 143 Audi A4 Avant

The AKE engine doesn't go back to 1997 ('R' plate)?

As far as I can figure, the AFB engine was fitted to:
    A6 (4B2)
    A6 Avant (4B5)
    A8 (4D2)
    A4 (8D2)
    A4 Avant (8D5)

I'm not 100% sure exactly how the older UK plates work (I live in Ireland) but I thought the 'R' plate was 1997 in which case, only the A8 was fitted with that engine in that year and only with a CYB gearbox...

It looks like the AFB engine was only available on the A6 from 1998-2002. If it happens to be a 1998, then there are 5 gearbox options on the A6:
    DEQ (A)
    DQS (M)
    DQT (M)
    DSE (M)
    ELQ (M)

In later years, 3 other automatic boxes were added to the A6 with this engine:
    DEW
    ETV
    ETY

    Hope this covers it!

    Edit:
Forgot to say that this covers Audi only. My VW info is causing me problems at the moment, sorry.

    Hi everyone,

I also have got a problem with my Audi A6 2.5 V6 TDI Quattro Tiptronic Sport SE (this must be the longest title for a car i think i've ever seen, lol) on a November 2000 X Plate with 150,000 miles on the clock, and it won't go into third gear.
Engine code is AKE and the Gearbox code is FAU. I've had a couple of plug-ins done with no joy and been told it could cost upto between £1,500 and £1,800 to strip the box find the fault and fix it.

I've thought about converting it to a manual box as a last resort, as it seems a shame to srcap the auto box as it works in the other gears and would still cost about £900 for the conversion.
Does anyone out there know if a different code Tiptronic box would fit, or a VW, Seat or Skoda counter part and where i might find a good one?

The factory sticker in the spare wheel well it says -

    engine/transmission code : AKE................... EUS...FAU.

The above is how it appears on the sticker, Would this indicate that a EUS gearbox may fit? I really love this car and would hate to get rid of it as spares or repair. Can anyone please advise me on the best course of action without breaking the bank or direct me to someone more knowledgeable.

    Thanks in anticipation.
