I have a 2004 Passat Estate, and recently managed to jam the front passenger door, such that it was stuck open, by about 1/2"!
Much tugging and the door finally released, but now the handle is loose. It locks/unlocks okay, but the handle does not sit flush when closed.

When you open the door from the outside, by pulling the handle, nothing happens, but if you then try again it seems to open?

    Any suggestions??

The wire which is attached to the handle is out of position, you must remove the locking barrel to reposition the wire

Thanks - do you mean the blank one next to the handle itself? As this is the passenger door, there is no locking barrel.

If so, this can be removed by loosening the torx bolt on the edge of the door first?

Yes that is correct, pull the handle out during the complete operation,DO NOT screw the bolt out too far or you will end up having to remove the door trim and the widow carrier assembly
