I have been looking at private plates for some time for many reasons, i have always liked the idea of having it for life from car to car and also it hides the age of the car..

and today i have purchased one...

Im known to all my mates friends etc as Rick.. and my surname starts with a T..

So i have purchased a cheap plate from DVLA (i thought its a bargin!!) today..

Once i get the paper work through and do the transfer it will be on the car!!

Below is a picture of the plate i have gone for..

Your thoughts please... (only postive comments!! LOL!!)

Yes I do, but I bought it to space wrongly and read "SLOW TD" - then the law caught up with me and two warnings and one fine later, I've given up and reverted to it's legal spacing so now it reads wrongly. It's still a dateless plate though, so it helps with my car being fairly old, I could be driving a 56 plate Fabia in theory....

How much was R71 CKT? Or other ones with a 1 in there? I bet R11 CKT was a lot of dosh.
Jason - Rather mad Skoda Fabia driver.... Odd whiff of diesel coming from him.

DVLA only had 70 or 77.. which looked any good.. all the others with other numbers didnt read right,..

All the ones with 1 or 11 etc where over a grand on other sites and DVLA dont have them for sale.. .. R1 CKT sold for £3200 3 years ago..

When i say bargin.. i mean i paid £250 all in.. includes all taxes and transfer fees...

You may think I'm being helpful yet sarcastic, this is only because I feel I need to help you to help yourself in the future

    Just to check opinion.

Private, personal, cherished - all words that describe a numberplate that is not the one that came on the car originally.

In my eyes, the plate that rick has bought himself is personal (to him)
If it were random say xjk 964 or y987abc then they would be private as they don't relate to rick.

a good plate i saw on a 2cv once was XYT 1N pronounced exciting.

years ago dad said he saw 4 cof whilst he was out in his police car.

Unfortunately i was not blessed by my parents with a middle name so all plates tend to be too expensive as BEN, B3NNY, B3NJY, D1 BEN cost fortunes

i would like bk 1977 tho

    I have one too

I asked the DVLA to issue one and waited for three years for them to do so. When it came to the release auction I was out of the country and missed it.

When I got back to find the email, and closing price I almost burst - it was £300 less than my budget of £600. So I tracked down the buyer and asked if he was willing to pass it on for a small increase.

He wasn't, he had the same surname as me. He later sold it for upwards of £6,000.

I had to settle for something less personal but still unique to me.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.
