    Hey all,

I have noticed the smell of burning rubber when I exit my vehicle. I cannot pin point where the smell is coming from, but i think it is the rear of the vehicle somewhere. I have smelt it a few times in the past, but the last couple of days it has been very prominent and regular.

Any ideas? I am worried the thing is gonna konk out. I have checked the tyres and they don't seem to have any wear on them.

    Cheers

Hi Ad, just a long shot, but worth a look at the exhaust hanger/rubbers,if one has split and inexplicably twisted and jammed /got stuck against the system or something queer like this then you might smell burning rubber
Odd and quite unlikely but easy to check and cheap to sort
On a more serious note if you can't find the problem, get her into a garage ,obviously burning anything is unsafe
    Good luck

How is your driving style when you smell the burning?

I have had this issue with ALL cars I've owned in the past and it ONLY happens when I go to work... I work in Milton Keynes and it's full of round-abouts everywhere with a national speed limit so its hard breaking followed with heavy acceleration for a good 5 .
I don't get the smell that much with the Audi or the VW as they are both front wheel drive however the BMW's use to stink as they were rear wheel drive.

    Just a thought.

Because of the smell my driving has been very sedate, so its not like i'm going like Schumacher everywhere. I have had it with previous cars when you give it some welly it does waft a bit when you get out - but not rubbery like this. I will have to get under it tomorrow and have a looksy to see if its something simple.

Thanks for your help guys - oh and Bez - if only!!
