  1. New Golf delivery time and other things

Ordered my new SE yesterday, delivery time is now 5 months! Apparently VW say they will 'support' the customer if it takes longer than this, but no details yet as to what this means.

Also I wanted a multi function steering wheel but computer said no - it's not orderable apparently as VW can't get hold of them at present. Also salesman told me the only make of phone that works with the Bluetooth is a Nokia so I will probably have to get a cheap one! If anyone knows differently I'd interested to know.

Just a few points to be aware of.

Which engine ? TSI models have been up to 7 months lead time, be nice to hear VW are improving !

The lack of multifunction wheels is the current VW excuse for late orders, particluarly GTIs.

After 20 weeks of waiting, VW should offer you a hire car to take your part ex off you before it devalues further

Do a search for 'Fiscon' - their bluetooth module is compatible with most phones, so this might eb a better option for you, albeit its an aftermarket fitment.

Well, I ordered mine on 30/09, and current ETA is end March / early April, so current lead time is probably a lot more than 5 months!

As mentioned, you do become eligible for a free hire car 20 weeks after the date of order though.

If you want a multi function wheel, order one. Yes they are having problems just now sourcing these but by the time comes to build yours it will be something else holding up production!! A couple of weeks ago it was the RCD510 head units and sunroofs before this. Don't let them fob you off.

If you're getting the touch screen radio I'd thoroughly recommend the reversing camera too. I was worried it might be a bit gimmicky but it's great. It works brilliantly at night and didn't having any problems 'popping up' even with temperatures of -8.

It's the 1.4 TSi petrol. Hadn't realised it used to be 7 months lead time!

Do you think VW are trying to create a false demand for this engine by telling people it will take months to arrive? I do wonder sometimes at the motives of these car makers. Buying a new car is such a minefield. At the dealers they weren't even going to give me any discount on the list price and when he saw I was about to leave he suddenly went back to talk to his boss and came back with a reduction of £800!

Only £800 discount?! The ‘aim to pay’ price in AutoExpress is roughly £1500 under list for a 1.4 TSI SE (although it’s been that for ages so may not have been updated). I wonder if Dealer’s are refusing to budge on price due to the waiting list? My car was built to order and I was quoted 10 weeks wait which subsequently grew to about 4 month (and that was before the supply problem with the TSI...)

If anyone else is thinking of ordering a new car I’d recommend going to Drive The Deal and printing off the best price and using it as a bargaining tool - It worked for me.
