I've just installed a Dension 500 and BTA1500 bluetooth phone kit in my Audi A6 (2006), with MMI Basic plus satnav & CD Changer.

If anyone needs any help or advice on how it all works with the MMI Basic, then please let me know. I've received good support from this site and I'd like to give something back.

    Some info:
I am using it with I-phone 3G. Playlist, track names, artist etc all displayed.
    Full Phone book available.

Can't bluetooth music though, only through the cable. (Iphone issue).

Anyway, it sounds great and I'm well chuffed.

    Simon

Hi, I've got a 2005 A6 with MMI Basic Plus and have been looking around for the best deal. Just a couple of Q's, did you fit it yourself and how much was it with the bluetooth? Thanks.

Hi, I've got an A6 (2006) with MMI Basic Plus satnav CD changer and am looking for details of bluetooth phone installation (phone is HTC Touch with SAP). I'd be grateful for details of what you did.

    Thanks.

Hi. Yes I fitted the kit myself. Very straight forward.

Someone has posted fitting instructions for the MMI High version. Very similar fitting instructions, except the optical cables are not made into a ring on the basic MMI version.
It's actually simpler for the Basic MMI, as you don't need to remove the optical cables from the connectors.

    http://audiforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1066355

The instructions that come with the unit also show how to set out the optical cables too. Pretty straight forward. The connector you remove from the CD changer, goes into the Dension and the cable that comes in the dension kit connects between CD changer and Dension.

Red/green cable going into CD changer connector is +ve for red power cable from Desion unit. Black goes to bolt on the cars body.

The only bit that wasn't 100% clear was which was port 1 and 2 on the Dension unit. One of them is for the ipod cable, the other for the bluetooth adapter. I had them the wrong way round for a while. The Dension picture of which is port 1 & 2, is clearer on the Dension instructions rather than the bluethooth adapter instruction, which I initially looked at.

The microphone; I ran the cable up the A-pillar into the headliner. I removed the headliner console (clips out, then two screws in there to loosen things up) and there is a space for the microphone in the console. Square hole, which the mircophone pushes into snugly.

I bought the Dension 500 off ebay for £269 (plus postage), from Stafford Audi.
I see on ebay Wolverhampton audi has one at £269 plus £2.50 postage.

The bluetooth kit I got from:

    http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/iP...tooth_Adapters

    Price was £69.81 including postage.

    Best of luck.

Was also thinking of getting this. How does the bluetooth adaptor integrate with the car. Can you use the " TEL" button and answer calls using the steering wheel?

    Thanks.

    Yep, use "tel" button.

Gives you phones phone book, then can scroll through using steering wheel and contacts are displayed on small screen in the cluster or large screen depending on how you entered the menu.

Can dial contacts with steering wheel, and answer. Does all you'd expect.

Simple to connect up bluetooth. Instructions with the BTA1500 are clear how to do this.

Once initial pairing is done. Each time you enter the car with bluetooth switch on on the phone, it automatically pairs.

Great kit, I'm about to get them installed myself.
    Two questions,
Can the speech control system SDS button on the steering wheel be made to work with these additions?

And Have you updated any software on these bits of kit, incl MMI ?

    Cheers

With these additions the speech control won't work. (well it doesn't on mine).

Not sure if something additional can be added to make speech control work, I don't think Dension offers such a product.

I haven't updated the MMI from how it was before fitting the Dension.

However I did update the firmware in the Dension after installation.

Basically, download the update from the Dension website onto a USB stick.

    http://www.dension.com/index.php?pageID=35

    Info from Dension site:

"Extract the G5MB_UPD.ROM file from the update package and copy to the root of an USB flash drive, then connect the USB drive to the Gateway 500 while it is powered. If there is an iPod connected to Gateway, please disconnect it before you connect the USB drive (flash drive).

Update procedure will start automatically within few seconds and takes 1.5 minute.
Do not disconnect the USB drive within this time. After a successful update G5MB_UPD.ROM
is deleted from the USB drive and GW_EES.BIN file will appear with the new software wersion.

When finished, it is better to restart the Head Unit and the Gateway 500."

There was no real notification the update was complete, other than the LED on the USB drive stopped flashing. All I did was make sure I waited over 1.5mins to make sure it was updated. In fact I think I waited 2mins to be on the safe side.
