    Hi,

The reflector on the rear bumper of my golf has been cracked . Does anyone know if the bumper needs to be removed or can I get away with fitting it from the front? I ask as I will probably get the dealer to undertake the work if the bumper needs to be taken off (depending on price ).

    Any comments appreciated.

    Thanks
    Canny

Best to ask the parts department instead to see how its fits (don't ask service, they are always rubbing their hands together to charge you): my wife's Beetle front honeycomb air grille cracked, I thought the front bumper had to be taken off (service confirmed and said £95 for labour) but when I wanted to get a price for the part, the parts manager said no need to remove the front bumper, he asked me to pop around when the part arrived and he fitted it for me for free, took minutes.

Thinking back on my Golf Plus, which had a rear bumper reflector, I'm sure it is clip design. Try reaching the back of the reflector to see if you can push it through.

I'm not sure if it can be fitted without but have to echo the above about the parts department. They've always been really helpful. I needed new headlamps (both had gone so wasnt sure if something else had gone) and the guy from the parts department went round at put the new ones in, very nice of them.

The rear reflector cost less than £6; I fitted it in 10 minutes. The paint abrasion is hardly noticeable since I T-Cut and polished the area. Certainly not perfect, but a lot less money then what the dealer was quoting.

Was the cracked reflector glued to the red abs plastic backup piece... Do you know if they can be separated?

The replacement had the red plastic and reflector in one unit. It looked like they were glued together. Given the cost being low, you could buy one and check it out.
