    Hi all,

My AUX belt came off the other day so I bought a replacement one and went ahead and fitted it.

Now once I had fitted it I started the engine, it wouldn't fire, just sounded like the battery was flat! Then my mate said he seen a bit of smoke come up from the engine bay!

On closer inspection it looks like the drivebelt tensioner has failed so is now jammed against the Viscous fan pulley! Now I'm pretty certain that these two parts need replacing! But what other damage could occur from this happening?

Has this ever happened to you?

What sort of price am I looking at?

    Cheers Lee

The alternator pulley one way clutch has probably failed and this makes the tensioner damper fail. One thing, I have seen a few where bits of the poly V belt have been drawn into the cam belt area through the gap behind the lower pulley and made the timing belt jump.

I'll have a look in there see if anythings up. unfortunately the cars not with me at the mo as I can't get it home.

The Viscous fan pulley is grinding against the tension pulley's arm, it looks as if the tension pulley has moved forward as in towards the radiator!
