Hi - I've got bit of a problem. I wanted to fit a factory CD changer to my girlfriends Passat as a surprise for her birthday. It's a B5, 2000 W Reg with Gamma head Unit. I've bought a secondhand factory Changer and a cable to run from the Gamma to the boot.

My problem is, where does the Changer go in the boot?

I thought in the first aid kit compartment, on the left, but at the back of the compartment is just more boot lining material, the same as the compartment door is made from. I expected to see a mount to slide the Changer into

    1. Do I need to cut a hole in this? If so, where?

    2. Will I find the mount to slide the changer into behind? (The Changer I have has the mounting brackets attached, ready to slide into the car mount and be secured with two screws)

Any help would be really appreciated, and if anyone could post a picture of their factory installed boot changer it would be very helpful please.

BTW - I'm on a bit of a deadline, her birthday is Feb 18th! Thanks

as far as i can tell you the cd changer didnt go in the boot my mate it goes in the dash under the gamma stereo itself its actually double din size you can get a 6 disk cd unit for them vw made and a lead that connects them together...!! they do a single disk version and a 6 disk it has a single slot but loads 6 disks..!! have a look at the pics here...

if your lucki enough to have the first set up with climate control its easy...

if its the other set up its harded and you need to change the facia on the dash..!!!!

look here for the close up pic's.....!!!!!!

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?im...3D231%26um%3D1

if you have option 1 let me know as i have a 6 disk dash changer im sure we could sort you out with...!!!

B5's before 2001 had CD changers in the boot on the left. There should be a tray for it to slide into behind the door. From 2001 onwards they were placed in the dash

Mine is an 03 with Sat Nav so the CD changer should be in the boot like skinnyseand says next to the jack, along with the first aid kit. If it's a factory unit, it ought to go where the factory intended it.

Thanks Passat TDi 130. I am lucky enough to have climate, but given that I've bought a boot mounted changer I think I'll go with that for now.

Thanks SkinnyseanD and Limecc, for confirming it should go in the first aid kit compartment. My problem is when I open the compartment door, the space inside the compartment is just a moulded recess into the boot liner (if that makes sense!?). There's no holes or gaps to slide the changer into. My worry is that if I do cut a hole there won't be a mount behind.

Any chance someone could post a picture of their boot installation?

There should be a plastic shelf/bracket arrangement which it slides neatly into. This carries the jack and toolkit, and first aid kit. Really easy to get to the cassette, but the changer would be really hard to steal when screwed in.

Mines an estate by the way, and I think the bracket has been cut slightly to fit a 10 disc Sony DVD changer so pics of mine may not help.

i had one fitted to both an 'R' reg and 'X' reg Passat.

The 'R' reg one was fitted in a slot on the lhs below the boot carpet. If you lift the carpet there's a slot that the changer would fit into, however as it was retrofitted it was packed with polystyrene to hold it.

The 'X' reg one was a factory fitted changer which was fitted into the cage slightly higher up on the lhs.

Nothing to see here, move along..
