Could anybody suggest as to why...after unfortunately finding a very large pothole with my nearside front wheel that the ESP warning light would come on? When the light came on i tried the ESP on/off switch with on effect.

After keying off and restarting the car after my trip to work this morning the light has gone out again and the ESP switch appears to be functioning correctly.

Just wondered if anybody could suggest a reason why a heavy bump to the front wheel might cause this??

If the light has gone out nowyou don't have a problem.
Could the ABS/ESP have picked up a difference in wheel rotation and flicked the light on.
Or the bump in the pothole dislodged anABS sensor slightly

    will check that first...

The traction control seems to work fine...might have a go at testing the abs on the way home this eve...

genrally it stays off until i've run few miles then the light appears...

sounds like one sensor is struggling to get a reliable signal. Could be as simple as air gap too small, or contamination on the rotor weakening the hall effect.

plug in VAG-COM, and check fault codes. Should indicate problem.

If not try a rolling check of the wheel rotation speeds. - need a mate in the car watching readings as you drive in a straight line.
