    Golf V 1.4 FSI 2005 mileage only 9050

The ESP light on my wife's Golf 1.4 FSI stays on permanently "ON". The fault has been diagnosed as: Code 059B- Brake Pressure Sensor Open Circuit. This is an ABS unit failure TEVES Mk 60.1

The repair requires a replacement ABS unit at a total cost of £1105.08. The dealer has offered a 35% contribution reducing the cost to £790.08

Checking on the web I have found that this is a common fault and some people get larger contributions towards the repair. I would like to work with the Dealer and VW customer service to get a larger contribution.

This fault is recorded by a lot of people on different forums / websites.

It’s not fair to expect a customer to spend about 7% of the cost of a vehicle on a repair when the car has only done 9050 miles.

Has anyone taken legal action against their dealer or VW and what was the outcome? If I don't get a result I will consider legal action. I would be prepared to pay about £200 towards the cost of the repair.

Has anyone have advice from Trading Standards?

    Has anyone contacted Watchdog?

I also note that there are companies on the web offering to repair these units for £150.00 with a two year guarantee. Why can't VW do this?

If you have any information or advise please post a reply

    Thank you

Sorry no advise but te same thing happened to my Golf with similar low mileage. Fortunately it was still under warranty but it must be a common fault, it really is shocking.

I would try to write directly to VW. Just bought a 55 reg one and I hope I won't get this problem cos I'd die!

Thanks for your Reply. I intend to write to VW but their Customer Care Call center was directing me back to the dealer first.

They're probably going to try and put you off it as much as possible. Just keep on persisting and they'll probably give in. I'm sure the last thing they want is bad publicity for the brand...

I wrote to VW CS and got 55% off cost of repair - 2004 Touran with 72K on the clock - not regulary serviced by VW but we have had VWs before (though company cars) used ever bit of amunition I could think of ... goodluck.

p.s VW CS first offer was 55% didn't push for anymore, decided that when I sell the touran I will lose more than £460 on the sale price if ESP light was on.

think yourself lucky to have gotten any contribution.

i had a constant ESP ON fault and the car wouldn't start, turned out to be a faulty engine ECU - less than 6 weeks out of warranty.
there's nothing to say your fault won't occur on my golf either with it being a 2005 model.

i never got a penny in contribution towards the £900+ bill.

Got a result after a meeting with dealer service manager. Showed them lots post from various forums including honest John. Stayed calm but persistent

They complained that the car had not been serviced by VW

But it has only done 9000 miles and had 2 services - oil changes and a brake fluid change after two years. The fault has had nothing to do with the service history

In the end they paid 100% of the parts and 50% of the Labor. Total bill that I had to pay was £158

I considered this a fair result

For anyone getting nowhere with their dealer with this problem, ECU Testing will re-engineer and rebuild your existing unit for £350.
If you were to have a new one fitted by VW for £1000 +, the design fault would still apparently be there in the new unit and so you could fairly assume that failure would take place again in another 4 - 5 years.
With your own unit re-engineered by ECU Testing you can reasonably expect no repeat of the problem.

My son has a 2005 1.6 fsi with the engine light staying on (is that the ESP light?) Have tried resetting it by disconnecting the battery for about an hour which helped for about 5 minutes then it came on again. Car has 34k miles on the clock and has all the normal services done at the agents. Any advice will be welcome
