I have a '54 A4 with the concert head unit. I would like to have bluetooth capability integral with the car audio. Can anyone please advise on the options available ? Ideally I like an Audi unit to maintain the look of the dash.

    Thanks

Fit a Nokia Bluetooth car kit,

you can set it up so it comes through the car speakers and mutes the radio auto, and states PHONE on the head unit and DIS display..

Take a read below from a guide i did some time ago..

The below is taken from a thread i posted in the A4 - B6 Section... - The Nokia kit was fitted using some of the old parts from an old Nokia kit already installed.

    Rick

    Right...

Took the best part of 4 hours to fit from start to finsh..!! lol...

Had a few issues to start with as the chap gave me the wrong radio tools to remove it,

    anyway... here we go....

First of all took the Radio and climate control unit out to assess what was behind the dash...

Look at the back of the radio it would appear that the kit which was installed from new was a Nokia car kit which made things a lot easier...

After following the wires to behind the glove box it was time to remove the glove box and see what is behind, (3 screws inside the glove box at the top and 2 on the outside of the glove box)

Removed side dash panel and pillar door trim so i was able to see what was going on...

After looking around i found the existing Nokia car kit still wired up apart from the cradle lead had been chopped...

Removed the old Nokia control box to find that the existing wiring will work with the new kit if i remove the existing DC plug and connect the new one..

As i didnt want to "butcher" the wiring loom which came with the New kit i just joined the end of the old kit to the end of the new kit and just coiled / taped the new wiring up..

LUCKILY -- The kit before already had a live feed from the battery installed, followed RED wire into the engine bay to find it disconnected and hiding under the battery tray..

As the live feed had already been cut with a decent amount of spare slack i was able to connect this back to the battery after a quick visit back to Halford for a "ring" connector to attached to the battery terminal.. (this will make you laugh.. When i explained to the lad in Halford want i required he showed me a crocodile clip!!)

Got the live to the battery and tested this in the car to ensure there was power with my meter.. (had a few issues thing it was not live due to a break, but that was down to not getting a decent earth, (always use a non painted surface! - ie, door catch!)

I then managed to get power into the new NOKIA control unit and this was confirmed by an LED on the hands free remote..

I connected up the existing SPEAKER lead hoping that this was going to be already connected upto the car speakers.... tested it and no... no sound...

After routing around and "freeing" the existing speaker lead i found that that had been cut.. looks like it was cut when the old speaker was removed. (bit of a downer...!)

I then traced the existing MIC lead up the A pillar, upto the roof lining to just in front of the center roof lighting pack.. it appeared that the MIC had just been cut off and the wire just pushed into the roof lining..

I removed the center sun visor to produce a bit of "slack" so i could look into the roof lining to see not much really!..

I then removed the center lighting unit.. (to do this.. remove the large clear plastic lens, this can be down be hand, get you nail behind it from rear to front and pull down slowly..)

Once off i was able to remove the plastic trim,.... removed 2 screws next to the reading lights and was able to pull the full trim out of the roof lining..

When removing the trim i noticed that there is already 3 microphones present which are OEM fitted... ( SEE PICTURES BELOW)

As i didnt want to be able to view the Mic, i decided that the best place to put it is up in the trim where one of the existing OEM Mic's are fitted, facing down through the "vented" section on the trim..

    Back to the speaker..

After looking in the passenger foot well i noticed that there was one screw hole where the previous speak was mounted and decided that this was the best place to fit mine..

Fitted the speaker and tested........ All worked perfect..... (at this stage the other half came out for a look and said she hoped i knew how to put the car back together!! as you can imagine it looks a bit of a mess wiring everywhere and trim hanging down!!

After testing out and leaving the car to run for around 10 minutes while i was just checking to ensure all the wiring was OK i then started to fit things back together... Nothing really to report... just a reverse of what i did!

Then mounted the Nokia controller next to the climate control, routed the wire from under the climate control the the right hand side, inner side panel with hardly any wire showing. (around 10mm)

-- PS.. A have wired this up to the Ignition "blue" wire to the head unit, and also fitted the MUTE "YELLOW" wire to the head unit.

All fitted and ready to talk!!!

    Below are a few photos..

Below is the old kit which was installed..

    Behind the Radio...

Radio and climate control.. - Once the radio is out.. The climate control just pulls out..

The center roof lighting with a bit of trim removed..

Roof trim OEM mic's - follow the White wire to the additional 2 Mic's... (sorry poor quality photo..)

The roof light trim.. Where you can see the "vents" on the trim.. i have fitted my Mic in there..

Nokia Control button.. -- This photo was taken this evening in the dark, hence all the marks with the flash!!

To be honest, I have enjoyed fitting this as it was something i have never done before!!!

I HAVE NOW SET UP MY NOKIA KIT TO USE THE CAR SPEAKERS INSTEAD OF EXTERNAL SPEAKER

    SEE BELOW..

CONNECTING THE SPEAKER WIRES FOR USE WITHOUT NOKIA EXTERNAL SPEAKER -

    2 Options --

Cut the speaker OFF your existing NOKIA external Speaker lead- Leave around 8 inch of wire still attached to the spear in case of future use..

    OR..

    Purchase a speaker 'jack lead.

We went for the first option, cut the wire off the speaker..

BEFORE CUTTING THE SPEAKER - PLEASE CONNECT ALL PARTS TO ENSURE THE CAR KIT WORKS -

Once you have cut the SPEAKER wire, bare the wires and you will find a RED and a BLACK wire..

    see below..

using the spade connects above, strip around 1 inch off the end of the RED and BLACK wire and double / triple up to provide you with a nice bit of think wire to mount the spade connect to.. Do the process for RED AND BLACK.

Connect the RED wire to TEL + and the BLACK wire to TEL using the spade connectors.

YOU WILL ALSO FIND DIAGRAM on the bottom of the radio on a sticker. --

    Once connected test..

    Check both speakers --

Tuck all wiring down ensuring you have tapped up excess wiring to make it a neat job.

ONCE TESTED -- REPLACE RADIO, just before you push the radio in to clip.. test again.

AT THIS STAGE.. We started the car and left it running for around 10 mins to ensure we had no arcing etc... (ie smoke!!) , just to be on the safe side!)

    HAPPY BLUE TOOTH TALKING!!

Hope you found this helpful and please do at your own risk. - I completed this today and the above is from memory, if i have missed anything please state.

    Further photos below..

In regards to an ignation switch on a B6 on the Radio loom..

Below is a picture off my Chours Radio and a picture off the Concert Radio i fitted a blue tooth car kit in today..

I took the ignation switch from the WHITE wire in the loom.. see the pic below, its the one with the "switch" icon on the label..

I checked this when the car is off and its dead, onces the ignation barell is turned is 12v..

Heres another Guide i did for a Mk4 Golf...

    Right..

Nokia CK-7W Blue tooth Car kit installed into my mates MK4 Golf, Hidden Microphone and sound via car door speakers.

A QUICK "How TO" guide below.. (this will also be posted in the "HOW TO" section.)

    Tools are parts required -

Wire Cutters, Screw driver, (just a basic tool box)

    PARTS -

    Nokia CK-7W Nokia Car kit.

    Halfords - HEF122 - Spade Connectors

    Additional Wire if required.

    Radio removal tool.

    (RADIO CODE IF REQUIRED)

-First - Remove Radio and CD Changer.

Mounted the Microphone into the center interior light..

Remove center light, first remove the clear plastic lens and then the full lighting unit from the cage. (4 clips on either edge (short edge))

Remove the plastic center sun visor, (one Torque screw to allow extra access to roof lining)

Remove foam pad from the existing microphone vent, (round holes in center light, see picture below)

Mount Mic and secure, Thread the remaining wire out towards the rear view mirror.

Run the wire to the top corner of the windscreen and tuck into roof lining.

Run the wire down the A pillar towards the front / bottom of the wind screen.
TIP - the Nokia wire is pretty thin, i wrapped a bit of insulation tape around the wire in places to "thinking" it up so it could be held behind the A pillar cover.

Route wire between the foot of the A pillar and dash board until it comes out next to the air vent and dash side panel/cover.

Route the wire down to the base of the dash behind the plastic cover. (this can just be pulled back to tuck the wire in.

Remove front corner sill panel, this can just be pulled off, 3 clips) to route the wire down.

Route the Mic wire around the back of the glove box under the foam panel at the depth of the foot well.

Route Mic wire around the back, (look through center of the dash where the radio was and you should be able to see "daylight" to the bottom left.

Reach through and pull the MIC wire through.

    CONNECTING THE NOKIA CONTROL BOX

    DIAGRAM A

    DIAGRAM B

    DIAGRAM C

ALL THE COLOUR CODES BELOW ARE REFERRING TO THE NOKIA CAR KIT.

THE BELOW REFERS TO THE ABOVE DIAGRAM C - BLACK BLOCK -

--- Tapped = connected to to share the power from this wire)

BEFORE CONNECTING ANY WIRES, CHECK THE CURRENT VOLTAGE FROM THE REAR OF THE RADIO TO ENSURE THESE ARE AS EXPECTED USING A MULTIMETER -

    ie.. Perm live around 12.0V,
Ignition, 0.00V when ignition off, 12.0V when turned on. -
    EARTH - 00.0V -
Mute -- Unsure, - think this is around 5.0v

Tapped the BLACK wire to the BROWN GAMMA, PIN 8 -(ground)_ (see above on BLACK BLOCK)

Tapped the RED live, taped a live from the RED (live) to the gamma RED/WHITE - PIN 7 - (Battery Power) (see above on BLACK BLOCK)

Tapped the BLUE (Ignition) to the PIN 4 - ()S contact, Ignition switch) (see above on BLACK BLOCK)

THE BELOW REFERS TO DIAGRAM A

Connect the YELLOW ((yellow) MUTE to PIN NAMED "MUTE" to the PIN on the rear of the radio - (used the Halfords Spade connectors)

PLEASE NOTE - You will have to add an fuse into the wire for the permanent live if not already in place.

Connect EXTERNAL speaker to NOKIA car control unit.

PLEASE CONNECT ALL PARTS TO ENSURE THE CAR KIT WORKS BEFORE PUTTING THIS BACK TOGETHER!!

The radio should auto mute and state PHONE where you normally see FM1/FM2 etc.

Nokia Password for pairing up a phone is '0000'

CONNECTING THE SPEAKER WIRES FOR USE WITHOUT NOKIA EXTERNAL SPEAKER -

    2 Options --

Cut the speaker OFF your existing NOKIA external Speaker lead- Leave around 8 inch of wire still attached to the spear in case of future use..

using the spade connects above, strip around 1 inch off the end of the RED and BLACK wire and double / triple up to provide you with a nice bit of think wire to mount the spade connect to.. Do the process for RED AND BLACK.

Connect the RED wire to TEL + and the BLACK wire to TEL using the spade connectors.

SEE DIAGRAM C THIRD BLOCK DOWN

This head unit had an OEM auto changer and the connect was a block of 3.. BLUE for the auto changer, Yellow and green.

YOU WILL ALSO FIND DIAGRAM C on the bottom of the radio on a sticker. --

    Once connected test..

    Check both speakers --

-- Inserting the NOKIA control box behind the dash. This was a bit tricky, simple enough through..

leaving all wires connected, push the box into the dash via the center console were the radio was and aim it down and left until out of the way so you can remote the radio.

    Excellent write ups there.

I can vouch for Nokia CK7W bluetooth carkits, Ive fitted 2 now and they're very easy to fit and work great with all phones, not just Nokias.

Easiest thing for splicing into cables is to use those blue connector/splicers from Halfords, saves loads of time.

Just fit it, pair up your phone and authorise the kit to connect automatically so you never have to take it out of your pocket again.

    Hi
I have the nokia bluetooth ck100 car kit which is great, and an A4 avant 04 reg. just wondered if you had experienced any hiss when the kit is activated, in the centre speaker (the one in the middle of the dash) It doesn't appear to be active with music so I assume it comes into play with the factory fit audi car kits
Any idea where this speaker is connected or where I might bypass it/detach it. Any clever wiring I can do, any suggestions as the hiss is v anoying where you are talking to someone?

    thanks
