Hi i have a golf mk 3 and im in a bit of trouble. when i bought the car it had after market central locking fitted, which i didnt use at first because although it opened both doors it wouldnt lock the passenger side door. I went to open my drivers door one day though and the lock turned fully round and now wont lock or unlock so i have had to use the central locking to open the car and lock the passenger door manualy before getting out of the car and using the central locking to lock the drivers door.

so after all that i need to ask 2 questions:

    1) how can i fix the lock without changing the barrel to a different key? (i hear it is a pretty common problem)

2)how do i fix the central locking on the passenger side door? it still opens but wont lock and sometimes vibrates when trying to lock

any help would be great but diagrams/photos even better! thanks
Black '95 Golf Mk3 3 Door 1.4l, 15" momo alloys, aftermarket central locking,

Hi, it sounds like the 'paddle' part of the lock on the drivers side has broken off, it is common on older cars.
There are two types of paddle, a thick one and a thin one, make sure you match the right one when you visit the scrapyard or parts shop.
(you can file the thick one down but it's a real hassle)
The paddle hooks onto the end of the lock barrel so no need for a new key or barrel.
This repair can be done just by lifting the door handle complete with lock barrel away from the door after taking the torx screw out from the door edge.
