Driving into work this morning and driving along the road I normally drive along and hit a flood. The road normally has flood boards down when the river floods it, but not this morning.

As it was foggy aswell before I knew it i was quite deep in the flood. I manganed to stop, kept the revs high and reversed out. Car was ok apart from a couple of things i have noticed. While stationary if i rev the car and let off, when they get down to about 2000rpm i can hear a noise which sounds like something cyclindrical (maybe flywheel?) scratching on something but then it disappears when idling. Wasn't there before.

Also, If I accelerate hard in second gear there is quite a big hesitation around 2500rpm but then goes and is fine through the gears. Again this wasn't here before. I'm gonna take her into the garage later if they'll fit me in, but any ideas what I could havedone.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hi there,

Not sure, but is it possible that water has gone up the exhaust pipe.

This may be causing the acceleration problem ???

I haven't had chance to look into it in any details as yet as at work, but where is the air cleaner assembly located?

I should be able to give the exhaust a shake and listen for water, which i'll do later.

    Thanks

the air cleaner is on the left side as you look under the bonnet. you will see the inlet pipe and the filter is under/behind that.

look for evidence that water has been in there.

I think that it picks air up from just above the bonnet slam panel , so could be easy to get water in if it was deep.

Air filter/box etc as said above,
cylindrical scraping sound, was it only water in the flood or did you enter the verge and maybe pick up some soil etc and compacted debris between lower pulleys and lower belly pan?
water in exhaust,no, if your engine is running it would have blown any water out almost as soon as you got decent revs

Just to update. Had a look in the air cleaner assembly couldn't see any evidence off water ingress. I could hear a bit of water in the exhaust though, but I figured this would evaporate from the heat which appears to have worked.

As for the scraping sound, It was just water i drove though but it was flood water which could carry alot of silt. The noise has subsided and I can only hear it sometimes and only very faint - i figure with time this will disappear.

I took the car for a very long easy drive yesterday and the car drives like normal now. I think I was very lucky not to have lost the car!!

    Thanks for your help guys.
