    Guys

    Im on the A3 forum with my 8P 2.0tdi so this post is on behalf of a workmate. After ive persuaded him to join the audi club he bought a 56 plate A4 3.0Tdi quattro S-Line Cabriolet this week. The issue he has is as follows;

It has the CD Rom based sat nav which all works as it should. The tel button states no telephone connected so ive tried myself to pair my phone using BT with the system. It couldnt find it which i found strange. Hes called the local dealer who after he gave them the reg they said the system doesnt have BT fitted and therefore no phone.

I cant believe it has the sat nav but no bluetooth connection fitted. Is this right or any other ideas all appreciated to save him having a parrott system fitted.

    Cheers

56 plate with RNSd, you sure its not DVD based RNSe
    Bluetooth is a seperate option.
Turn the ignition on, do a search with your phone with in a minute or so before the system shuts down.
The dealer is prolly right, but its an easy retrofit...

Yes deffo RNS-d. Its not the RNS-E as i expected when he was telling me about the spec of the car. Had a go today myself with the phone, turned it on as soon as ignition on and tried searching no joy. Its the sat nav that uses the same space where the radio display is, all red and no colour display so im pretty sure its the RNS D?

So the nav and bluetooth were seperate options? Im amazed but it would explain how he cant connect just find it strange since the tel button is there and it would appear to be a function.

How can he change the system to utilise bluetooth or is it a case of buying a new system or parrott etc? What and how do you retrofit?

I would check what system he has, could be BNS
You can retrofit the BT module, mic and loom, then add some coding with vagcom....voila
And if he has MFSW even better....

Sorry mate it could be the BNS...whats the difference between RNS and BNS? Is the BNS the red display ive described? If it is the BNS is it right it doesnt have the bluetooth connected as standard on a 56 plate A4? And yes he does have MFSW which made me think it had the phone set up.

RNSd is the forerunner of RNSe
BNS is the basic nav with just the direction arrows.
I would Phone Audi CS 0800699888 give them the reg No., they can give you the cars factory spec.
A good forum for nav retrofiting is....http://audiforum.us/
There are people on here who will do it for you.....http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/

Thanks kite just checked out BNS on google and that is the system he has so maybe thats why it wont connect. Ill pass on details of sharkperforance as its only 20 mins on motorway from where he lives and probably cheaper than a new parrott system.

    Cheers
