Hi - my satnav DVD is screwed, unreadable and got stuck in the dvd drive for a couple of weeks before it decided to come out.

I have a 2004 S4, with RNS-E. Have been looking around and I'm a bit confused with newer versions (MMI & MMI 2?!?) - will these work?

Don't think they do as i got hold of the latest 2009 MMI version but the files were unknown when i stuck the dvd in....either that or i have a hardware problem?

Before i go and get another version (do i need RNS-E? heard newer MMI isn't that much better anyway) does anyone know if you can upgrade the satnav dvd disk or will it only work with the older disks?

Hope someone can answer this i'm confused.com

You sure you have the RNS-E? And not the earlier RNS-D? Google a pic to conirm it, as unless yours is a retro-fit it would be an RNS-D in an 04 plate (usually!)

Whats the part number of the DVD your trying to use? MMI discs will not work, if its an RNS-E you have then you need an RNS-E DVD. A 2010 version is available.

Thanks Isaac. It's an RNS-E....bought this car in December, with all the manuals and the dvd+case. DVD is all scratched, thought i was gonna have to dismantle the whole unit to get the damn dvd out! Girlfriend asked me to try the eject button "one last time" when i took it to an audi garage (they couldn't get it out).....and guess what. As if she didn't think she was always right already.

So anyway, thanks again will look into getting a new RNS-E dvd....don't have the part number for the last one (it was a download) but know it was MMI. Strange don't think it was a retro-fit....registered in sept 2004 ('54 plate). Possible could be RNS-E by that point?

So RNS-E dvd it is then.....i'm not as confuseed anymore. Cheers mate.

Yes it'll be RNS-E on a 54. I took 2004 to mean it was on an 04 plate, my mistake! RNS-E was introduced in spring 04.

Well............I dont know for sure is the honest answer. I've used backup DVD's in my RNS-E and MMI for years to keep the originals in good nick and never had any problems.

However, maybe I am just lucky?! It would seem that the majority of people who post with disc reading problems are using copy DVD's. Is this twisted by the possibilty that nearly everyone uses copy discs as Audi charge such daft prices for them?!
