    what special tool is needed for changing a rear wheel bearing on a 2007 passat ?

    are you sure the bearing requires changing ?
    Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

    are you sure its not the rear tyres. theres a lot on here about rear tyres causing a wheel bearing like whine. also, wheel bearings usually last more than 3 years. might be worth swapping tyres front to rear first.
    Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

    Are the inside edges of the rear tyres wearing quicker than the rest of the tyre?

    Changing wheel bearing is straight forward. You will need a new hub bolt and a 200Nm torque wrench and maybe a longer bar for the extra 180 degrees.
